  3.   Prokaryotic cells' genome usually 
  4. consists of a single, large, circular DNA 
  5. molecule that lacks the proteins associated 
  6. with the DNA of eukaryotic cells.  But like 
  7. a eukaryotic chromosome, a prokaryotic 
  8. chromosome bears the genes that control 
  9. the metabolism of the cell as well as its 
  10. hereditary traits.  And, as does 
  11. eukaryotic DNA, prokaryotic DNA 
  12. directs protein synthesis via mRNA in 
  13. ribosomes.  However, prokaryotic 
  14. ribosomes are much smaller than eukaryotic 
  15. ribosomes and have a different 
  16. structure.
