- have a nuclear region, called the nucleoid,
- where their chromosomal matter is found.
- Prokaryotic cells' genome usually
- consists of a single, large, circular DNA
- molecule that lacks the proteins associated
- with the DNA of eukaryotic cells. But like
- a eukaryotic chromosome, a prokaryotic
- chromosome bears the genes that control
- the metabolism of the cell as well as its
- hereditary traits. And, as does
- eukaryotic DNA, prokaryotic DNA
- directs protein synthesis via mRNA in
- ribosomes. However, prokaryotic
- ribosomes are much smaller than eukaryotic
- ribosomes and have a different
- structure.
